Divine Liturgy
The Divine Liturgy is the central rite in Christian worship. It symbolizes the sacrifice of Jesus Christ and was established by Jesus Himself at the Last Supper when He took a loaf of bread and gave it to His 12 disciples, saying, “Take, eat; this is My body.” Then he took a cup and said, “Drink from it, all of you; for this is My blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins. Do this in remembrance of Me.” Today, two traditional variants of the Divine Liturgy are performed in Armenian churches. The music of one of them was arranged and made polyphonic by Makar Yekmalian, that of the other by Komitas Vardapet.
