No decision on Armenian citizens’ evacuation from Syria taken yet
No decision on Armenian citizens’ evacuation from Syria taken yet June 25, 2012

It is currently impossible to name a specific number of Armenian citizens residing in Syria, Foreign Ministry spokesman said.

“Both dual and RA citizens live in Syria, including the consulate staff,” Tigran Balayan told a PanARMENIAN.Net reporter, asked if the ministry has resolved to evacuate RA citizens from the country.

“No such decision has been taken. Armenia’s consulate continues its ordinary course of work,” he said.

According to UN estimates, over 10,000 people have been killed in Syria since the beginning of a popular uprising against President Assad in March 2011, which started with peaceful protests but has since grown increasingly militarized.
