Book of Proverbs
The Book of Proverbs, also called the Proverbs of Solomon, is one of the several biblical books attributed to Solomon, king of Israel. It is a treasury of wise instructions and advice for life and piety, and it never goes out of date. The aim of this collection of proverbs is "to gain wisdom and instruction, and to understand words of insight." This is the opening sentence of the book, and this sentence has a particularly important significance for us, the Armenians. Since the school years, we have all known these words in their Classical Armenian translation. They are the first words written in Armenian script after its invention, and the Book of Proverbs is the first biblical book that became translated into Armenian.
