Book of Sirach
The book of Sirach is among the so-called "deuterocanonical" books and is part of the Bible Canon of the traditional Churches. The author was Jesus, son of Sirach (Ben Sira) who lived in Jerusalem and was one of the Jewish sages, an expert in Holy Scriptures.
The book was compiled in 180 BC, being written in Hebrew; however, this text has only reached us partially, and the whole book has survived in its Greek translation, done by the author's grandson.
The initial goal of the Book of Sirach was to protect the Jewish religion and culture from Hellenization and to teach the contemporary that in all circumstances of life one must abide by the will of God.
